In Punjab it is a true story. Here certain communities will allow their girls to do everything. They allow their girls to choose their education. They allow their girls to choose their lifestyle. They allow everything except the marriage with their own chosen person. This is common trend here. Even after increasing of the literacy rate and well being in people these kinds of cases are very common. These types of incidences are mostly seen in the upper societies from highly educated and rich people.

The other thing is that not only men are involved but women are also involved in it. If this happens in other part of India like Orissa then one can blame the poverty and illiteracy. However in Punjab there is nothing to blame except the mental state of people. Still there are many people in Punjab who believe their girl marring to the person of other community as attack on their community. These people can go up to level of even killing or forceful marring of their daughter.
For a woman who has lived all her life in her own way, marring to an unknown person is a difficult task. There are some cases two three year back in which girls run from their houses to marry their loved ones. But in the end they only got death. On the interrogation the role of parents come in to the picture. They decided to kill their daughter rather allowing her to marring with the person of other community. India as a country is still divided by community and states. Many people have become educated but their thinking has not risen.
